HOME Remodeling estimate please? thanks?

We’re planning to buy a 2400 sqft home and we want to add a partial second floor with one room, about 200 sq ft, just the size of a master bedroom so we can have more height and be able to look past the trees and see the mountain view. I was wondering how much this would cost. Is it better to simply buy a different House?
oh and the house is in southern california.

Your cost will vary, depending on the structure of the home. Unfortunately, no one except a contractor in your area can give you an estimate. However, here is something to consider- Will you have to build an additional part of the roof? If you do, you have to ensure it matches the rest of the roof, possibly requiring you to replace a large portion of it.

Keep in mind, you will have to pay for building permits, and possibly have to apply for permission from the homeowners association just to get permission. If either deny it, you will be stuck with the house.

Also, you probably won’t get a return on your investment when it comes time to sell the house- so do it for you and expect to not get a dime of it back.

You are probably much better of looking at a different house rather than shelling out all that cash to build another room in the air. It’s much more expensive than adding a room on the ground.
